Excellent Cutting Board Counter-Top
by: Robert     from: -, NC      on: April 30, 2013
My wife and I are very happy with our purchase of the John Boos 1½" Thick Walnut Island Top (oil finish). It's absolutely beautiful and compliments our kitchen nicely. We'd never used before, and ordering and delivery went smoothly. We're completely satisfied with both the transaction and the product.

Your questions that we answered:
Is the Varnique finish food safe? Also, are there any time requirements for installation, that is must it be installed within a required time limit? Also, do you have any guidelines or recommendations for installing a counter-top with overhang of 13"? Thank you.   - Asked about product JB-WALKCT4838-V
Varnique Finish is a semi-gloss finish used for aesthetic purposes or for general food prep tasks, including rolling dough, but we do not recommend cutting upon it directly since it will damage the finish. Varnique finish requires low maintenance and is easily cleaned with mild soap and warm water and will not need refinished or re-oiled. Varnique is also more resistant to water spotting and staining. If varnique surface is scratched or cut, it will need to be resealed using the EZ-DO finish.

We do not recommend an overhang any larger than 12’’ without support brackets.

There is a one year guarantee against defect in workmanship and material from the purchase date.

My questions is: 1) When the item is oiled, does that mean top, bottom and sides are oiled? I ask because I would like to varnish the bottom only, and leave top and sides to be oiled. Thank you, Diane   - Asked about product JB-WALKCT4838-O
John Boos tops and boards are all dipped into a bath of oil, so it would be oiled on the top, bottom and all sides. We would recommend that you wait 2 weeks from the last time it was oiled before applying the varnish to the bottom.

I am confused the 60W to me is the length of my island and 27 is the width. Am I right?   - Asked about product JB-WALKCT6027-V
The ‘Width’ would be side to side and the ‘Depth’ would be front to back.
