Kitchen Sinks and Faucets
 by Arlene Pagan

The kitchen sink is one of the most functional elements in any kitchen. Sinks are pivotal in cleanup, cooking and food preparation. Kitchen sinks need to support the design of your kitchen remodeling or redecoration job.

When choosing your kitchen sink and faucet, you should consider not only the material, but the shape depth and the position of the sink in your kitchen. Many homeowners now prefer undermount or inset sinks, which are very deep and are flush with the countertops. The benefit of an undermount sink is mainly in cleanup -- you can wipe messes right into the sink without worrying about cleaning around the lip of the sink.

When it comes to choice of materials, there are many options to consider. Whitehaus kitchen sinks naturally blend with their faucet line, the latest in high-end kitchen and bath fixtures, as well as complimentary lines of accessories, which are innovative in design and unsurpassed in quality. Kitchen sinks need to be both functional and appealing. Whitehaus provides old-style options such as farmer fireclay sinks, which are imported and tailored for American homes and are available in multiple sizes and designs.  Whitehaus also makes stainless steel sinks, which are suitable for any kitchen or food prep design needs. Whitehaus offers several different series, each one with unique features and multiple sizes and configurations.

The quality of stainless steel sinks depends on the gauge. The gauge is the thickness of the stainless steel. When trying to figure out what gauge of stainless steel is right for you, an easy rule of thumb is the lower the number of the gauge, the thicker and better the stainless steel. Therefore, 18 gauge is better than 20 gauge. Some sinks, like the Blanco sinks, have a chrome-nickel content. Chrome-nickel content refers to the percentage of chrome and nickel in the stainless steel. Chrome gives the stainless steel its luster and durability, while the nickel provides hardness and strength. 18/10 stainless steel means it contains 18% chromium or chrome, and 10% nickel. A sink with 18/10 chrome-nickel content is considered to be an excellent grade, due to its corrosive resistance and greater durability.

Blanco offers a full range of innovative, premium quality products for the kitchen and bar areas, such as stainless steel sinks, composite sinks, bar sinks, kitchen faucets, bar faucets and decorative and custom accessories, all designed to save you time and effort...beautifully. Blanco also offers a wide selection of undermount sinks, drop-in sinks and farmhouse style stainless steel sinks. Most Blanco stainless steel sinks have what is called a satin polished finish. This elegant finish creates an enduring, easy-to-clean luster that is impervious to water stains.

As for kitchen faucets, the options are innumerable. There are a number of styles based on functionality, color and material. The single-hole faucets have only one main lever, making them easy to use. Widespread faucets have a center spout and a hot and cold valve on either side, which are mounted separately. The finish options vary from oil-rubbed bronze to stainless steel. There are as many faucet choices as there are sinks to match them. Some people prefer faucets with high sink clearance to help when filling pots (pot filler faucets), or for ease of access to the sink. Others may want a standard faucet or a pull-out faucet for ease of use.
