A sensor detects hands and debris within a 6-inch range, and a mechanism automatically slides the lid open. Three seconds after your hand moves away from the lid, it closes automatically. At the front of the lid there are open and close buttons for manual operation, as well as an on/off power switch on the back of the trash can. The trash can includes a garbage bag retainer ring to secure and hide the trash bag inside the trash can. Fits any regular 13-gallon or 18-gallon trash bag. Ships via UPS.

It's neat and works well so do not have to touch top to open. Thought the opening would be wider but I didn't measure.

It is lovely looking - sleek and very upscale. Enjoy the way it opens. Maybe a little too sensitive, it sometimes opens when you are only walking by because you break its field.
